The Googleopoly Strategy
Microsites
A successful microsite should work similarly to your primary website. It can act as an extension to your website, or stand alone, but it should always be similar to your primary site. A strong microsite should contain a little bit of everything when it comes to content. You can make your microsite seem like a blog in order to gain readers attention, but the point of a microsite is to drive business. Make sure that your content is timeless in that you will not be constantly changing the content. Microsites DO NOT replace your primary website. A properly positioned microsite will rank for the company by name, and for the specific needs. Microsites are timely, and require a good amount of effort to make successful. Though, once they’re done, they don’t need much more maintaining.
Focus Sites
Focus sites are the most important secondary sites that you could have. A focus site is exactly what it sounds like: a site focused on something specific. Here are some examples:
• Model-specific focus sites
• Auto service focus sites
• Used car specials focus sites
• Event focus sites
• Geo-targeted focus sites
It’s important for you to stay focuses while writing your focus sites! It’s easy to include too much information.=
Why Focus Sites Work
The two main goals for focus sites are to take of space on Google, and generate business. If you take the time to create and maintain your focus site, you will start to see your name popping up more and more in Google Searches. If your primary website shows up on search engines without focus sites, that does not mean that you shouldn’t have focus sites. If you are ranked with your primary site, and your focus site, than your competition has been bumped down twice!
How to Build a Focus Site
Make your domain name specific to the subject the site is about. Take it a step further by adding in the state that you’re located in. Make sure that the content matches the subject of the site as well as the location of the site.
