Teenagers today have grown up surrounded by technology since they were babies. - YouTube: “YouTube is a website that has truly changed the world,” 19-year old teen stated. He says that YouTube is not only a form of entertainment, but also a source of information. YouTube has something for everyone, whether you want to watch tutorials, music videos, comedic skits, etc. YouTube also provides a way to watch segments of your favorite shows on demand!
- Vine: “Vine is an application where I feel a lot of people in my group consume content but do not necessarily make content.” This app allows people to make 6 second videos that continuously loop. A lot of teens don’t receive interaction on their posts, so they either delete the app, or just use the app to watch others posts. It takes a lot to receive vine interaction if you are not already popular, or “vine famous.”
- Reddit: “I know a ton of people who visit Reddit on a daily basis…” Reddit allows people to consume the information that they want by specifically following topics of their choice. Reddit also allows people to comment and upvote/downvote posts which creates an interaction throughout the website.
- Google+: “I personally do not know anyone that uses Google+.” It seems that teenagers don’t use Google+ unless its for photos or Google hangouts. Teens wish that Google+ would have integrated more of Google’s other products, and maybe more teenagers would be more intrigued to using it.
- Plague: “Even though I’ve hardly heard any press talk about it, Plague was the third most recommended app to me (behind Google+ and Reddit.)” Plague consists of posts, and the surrounding Plague community votes on them to get them spread throughout the network.
- Ello: “Ello is a social network with no advertising and a strict policy against selling your data to other companies.” Teens aren’t really engaging in activity on Ello because the implementation and network wasn’t present, so no one wanted to stick around.
- Tinder: “Tinder is for those 18+, so it’s for those near the end of their teenage years.” A lot of teens are engaging in activity on Tinder in search for a romantic partner or relationship.
- Swarm: “What Swarm does is allow users to “check in” to local areas and see where others have checked in as well.” It seems like a lot of teenagers are not using this app, because it offers something that all other apps already offer—location tags.
- Quora: “Quora is an amazing social network that no one knows about.” This app is like Yahoo! Answers, you ask a question and then receive expert answers on the topics. Within this app, you can follow certain topics and read questions and answers from experts on the topics.
- MySpace: “MySpace will always be the butt of a joke” It’s time for MySpace to rebrand because no one is using it anymore. Since other social media networks have taken space in the online world, MySpace has become void, especially in the teenage population at IBEBET page
